Is it all in my head

My inner dialogue is on overload lately. It's a tough road for the soul to overthrow the tyrannical rule of the ego. Working toward harmony between the mind, the soul and heart; throw the ego into the mix and it is a constant state of readjustments based on situations.

If you don't know what I'm talking about then you are either a very balanced, zen-filled person, or you are as clueless as the day is long. I'm by no means saying that we are all, or should all be consumed every waking moment by everything we say and do. More that there should be a more active use of those considerations that keep us in a healthy range of who we strive to be as a person.

Someone I know made an offhand comment stating that he thought I was full of myself and cocky. My first reaction was laughter; outright belly laughter as I considered how ridiculous that impression of me was. After a few minutes, I was annoyed. How could anyone get that impression of me? The internal search for actions and words that could have been misunderstood began, though ended shortly when I realized that it really didn't matter to me. Well, it isn't that it didn't matter, it's more that there was nothing I could do to change this observation, and what someone else thinks about me shouldn't consume me.

Amazing how effective this internal coaching can be. I might be slightly more mindful about how I present myself after negative impressions have been formed about me, but I won't let those opinions dictate my interactions or navigate my life.
